Multiple Teams · Two Cross Country Athletes advance to Semistate

The IHSAA Cross Country Regional was held on Saturday, 10/15/2016 at New Prairie High School.  From the regional, the top 5 teams advance to the Semistate, the top 10 individuals not on a qualifying team also advance to the Semistate
In the varsity girls race, Ivy Allen qualified for the Semistate meet for the 2nd year in a row, breaking her own school record with a time of 20:45.3.  She finished 31st and qualified for the Semistate by being one of the top 10 individuals not advancing on a qualifying team.
In the varsity boys race,  the Spartan boys finished 9th in the Regional.  Jacob Kessler ran a personal record time of 16:29.4 to qualify for the Semistate meet with an 8th place finish He was the # 1 qualifier of the top 10 individuals to qualify that were not on a qualifying team.  Other top Spartan finishers were Tyler Kessler – 59th in a time of 18:13, Ethan Gagnon – 65th in a time of 18:32, Alex McKernan – 70th in a time of 18:43, Miguel Espino – 79th in a time of 19:40, Cole Wedding – 81st in a time of 20:05, and Keagan Anderson – 83rd in a time of 20:14.
This is the first time in about 18 years that North Newton qualified both a boy and a girl from the Regional meet to race in the Semistate meet the following week.  Ivy and Jacob will compete in the New Prairie Semistate on Saturday, 10/22/2016.
